Re: Can't download 14 day trial

Unsure what Starbucks would have to do with it, but try installing the plugin using the instructions in this PDF:

Re: Discourage spamming: can we introduce CAPTCHAS?

Hi Ruben, Thanks for your concerns and also love for the forum. I am the main administrator of the board however have little time to actually administer it. I will see what we can do, although I am afraid captcha s won't help much as most spammers are human spammers. I share your concerns and will l...

Missing posts and users

Hi everyone, We have had to move our website to a different server in the past couple of days. Even though we've gone through great lengths to make the move go as smoothly as possible, there have been a few glitches while moving. The move caused a gap in our data of several hours. This means that yo...

Hi Tarib,

Is the file you are trying to open created or saved in a different version of SPSS?

Re: SPSS 16 Problem - Windows Vista

[OFFTOPIC] This is not quite accurate. SPSS needs a internet connection only when you initially license the software in the license authorisation wizard. When you're license is retrieved it is saved into a license file called 'LSERVRC' located in your SPSS dir. A license check will automatically run...

Re: SPSS 16 Problem - Windows Vista

I think the only way to stop the prompt is to disable it in the program that starts the prompt. I guess that is your firewall..

Re: Defining correct variables

If you simply try to run Frequencies on this you get the error? Is your license for SPSS still valid?

Re: Character Encoding for Data and Syntax

The 16.0.02 Patch (which is not for V17, I know) fixed an error on this matter. On the SPSS website it says in the description of this patch: 53. A problem in LAG function whereby strings crashed SPSS in Unicode mode was fixed. You can find the page I'm referring to here: http://support.spss.com/Pro...

Re: SPSS 16 Problem - Windows Vista

If you cancel SPSS still runs? This sounds like SPSS needs access to something...
If this happens when SPSS runs and also on other PC's in the same situation, I would advise to allow it. I think it is the firewall, which is setup to block "anything" that runs without permission.. :-)

Re: Character Encoding for Data and Syntax

Hi Bradley, I'm not sure if in SPSS it is used in the same way, but Locale is on the internet referred to as "a set of parameters that defines the user's language, country and any special variant preferences that the user wants to see in their user interface" ( Wikipedia ). I think when it comes to ...

Re: SPSS 16 Problem - Windows Vista

First post, I know, I know, it feels special... Welcome  I have recently installed SPSS 16 on my laptop and when I select the program I get a user account prompt stating that 'an unidentified program wants access to your computer' and I have to select to 'cancel' or 'allow' it. This happens ev...

Re: Using "OR" for select statememt without repeating variable

I am not sure, but I would guess this is simply not possible, or it should be in the form of:

(Prob =14,40) And (Cat=1,3)

But even this I would find very unlikely. You want to check two values for a variable, so I am afraid the only solution is to type the variable name twice..
