Re: Large Odds Ratio

thank you so much for your time/response.
i have seen ORs of this number before, but when i had to WRITE OUT the 'increase in odds of over 1000 ...." that sounded suspect to me. and thought i'd better check in.
again, appreciate your thoughts!

Re: Question regarding data type of BMI

hello, i wonder if you ever received your answer? trust me, im no stats-wiz. but it appears to me you have it correct. BMI is continuous. sounds like a researcher created those categories. sort of like creating age groups. some people prefer to work with the continuous, others not. sometimes it's mo...

Large Odds Ratio

i have run a series of regressions and most of my results appear as i would expect. however, ONE is much larger than others and larger than i am used to seeing (OR=14.53). My main IV is a neuropsychological test score. I am running it with control variables (age=continuous, gender=dummy, and a serie...

how do i UNweight my data ...that i weighted in error?

I have a 'weight' variable and used the 'weight cases by' button. I did not know i had to 'turn it off' before saving. (i assumed i could always go back and turn it 'on' or 'off'!!) is there a way to return my data back to it's original form? i try using the 'do not weight cases' button but as i sai...

Re: strength of association tests

OS= Windows 7; SPSS 20 (I think. Sorry, Im at work and can't confirm). I am using secondary data involving older adults (N=686). I have 4 different research questions but the focus is on measuring cognition via neuropsychological tests and association with driving status (yes/no). I had originally p...

assess: how a change in IV predicts DV over time

this is my research question: how is change in neuropsychological test scores from Time 1 to Time 2 associated with driving status at Time 2? IVs are continuous (but some on a scale of 1-10, some on scale of 1-300). DV is binary (yes/no). the question is exploratory at this point and my committee is...

strength of association tests

i have to run tests of association with continuous IVs and a binary DV. i was originally going to run a logistic regression. however, my committee recommended NOT using this test. what other options do i have? my research question is posed: Which neuropsychological tests administered at Time 1 (wave...

Re: merge issue

i received a reply about 3 mins ago from the 'hrs help line'. it appears it may be a data issue, not an spss issue, which i suspected from the start. they are directing me to a different 'core' in order to access a variable that can be merged correctly. not sure what it all means, but im going to tr...

Re: merge issue

the SRHONLY is from the 'core' so it has 18,167 cases. the drivenow6 set is the data set i have been creating to work with. therefore, variables have been merged in, renamed, recoded, dropped if missing values, etc (N=696). i wanted to merge in a variable from SRHONLY into my current set. i fear i a...

Re: merge issue

'SRHONLY' contains the new variable i want. 'drivenow6' contains my main data set. i sorted each according to two identifier variables: hhid & pn. and match on these key variables as well. i use the 'clicking' method for merging. but this is the sytnax the output creates. hope this helps??? the real...

merge issue

hello, i am using spss version 21. i have merged multiple files from the Health and Retirement Study without issue so far. the last variable i needed was from a different file set (still from HRS). after merging, i received no warning or error message, but was concerned because i only had 80 valid r...
