Urgent Help Needed Please - Computing

Postby koffy » Sun Mar 02, 2014 1:10 pm

Hi

I am trying to compute a new variable 'GROW' from an existing variable 'Turnover'. GROW = (Turnover in year 2012 -Turnover in year 2004)/Turnover in year 2012

My dataset includes 8 values (turnover for years 2004 - 2012) for Turnover (in one column) for each company (88) in my sample.

My data is structured as in the example below:

Company Year Turnover
a 2012 37842
a 2011 49632
a 2010 16562
a 2009 144446
b 2012 259644
b 2011 54633
b 2010 45548
b 2009 45496

Any suggestions please, there is probably an easy solution to this but I am a newbie to SPSS.

Kind regards

Couple of thoughts, aside from a macro which can't help with, and no preference order: Sort the data and then check into using the LEAD/LAG function; check OMS; rearrange your data so that the dates are the variables and growth the data (probable the more straightforward)
