getting SPSS to filter by duplicate entries in a variable

Hi,

Spent all day on this - so help please!

Problem is need to identify which households have children and have an adult with a chronic condition. It's fine if there's only one adult, but if there are two adults and one child and the second adult has a chronic condition they're not included in the filtering/recoding.

Here's a small example: (columns are house ref 3 digits; pers ref 6 digits; adult with chronic condition 0=no, 1= yes; child in house, 0=no, 1=yes)

house pers ad cc ch
100 100101 0 0
101 101101 1 0
101 101102 0 1
102 102101 0 1
102 102102 0 1
103 103101 1 0
103 103102 0 1
104 104101 0 1
104 104102 0 0

So for house ref 101 the child would not be reported as living in a household with a chronic condition as they're paired with a 'healthy adult'.

Would really appreciate any help.

Oh - the file contains 65,000 cases or I think I would just have sorted it by hand by now!!

Many thanks

Not really clear.
First: is "AD CC" one variable or two? One right?

The data works as:
101 101101 1 0 House 101, adult 1, has CC, no child
101 101102 0 1 House 101, adult1, doesn't has CC, child in the house
is this right?

And you must have one case for aech person or can it be one per house? Becouse, if that's all variables you have, I think one case per house would be better...
