How to combine cases from two variables

Postby spindoctor » Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:08 pm

Hi, I have two variables, both have the same values. Exactly the same values.
This was a telephone survey, and some respondents were given an extra, explicit option to choose from, while the other respondents were not. But the answers are all coded exactly the same.
1= NDP
2- Liberals
3= bloc
4= Conservative
5- Green
Again, there are two separate variables: one wher ethe respondents were provided with an extra explicit option; the other where the respondents were not. I would like to combine these two different variables into one. Can someone explain how to do that?
Thanks!
Yours, SJK

Combine how? Add cases to have a variable with cases from both? Maybe you have missing data in one of them and wants to replace it by the values of the other variables?

It would be useful if you could tell how is your dataset organized, as well as your SPSS version.
