Counting up links for each trip..

Postby AlamedaCA » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:38 pm

Hi, I am fairly new to data manipulation in SPSS and could use some help.
I am working with a travel diary data set and I need to count up the links for a specific type of trip.
There are multiple trip entries for each person.

I am trying to Transform> Count Values within Cases.
But I am not having any luck. Can someone point me to a good tutorial.

I have also tried some sort of "For Each" function, but still no luck. (any advice on this would be appreciated)

I have the trip type.
and then I have been trying an "If" function where
I thought I could place a query for when the Case numbers are equivalent.
I am not sure I am using the right syntax, but I have tried this.
"if = triptype & Case = Case & dayoftrip = dayoftrip"

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
