enhancing data

Postby adingle » Thu Apr 24, 2008 10:02 pm

Hi

Unfortunately I do not seem to be able to figure this problem out based on the information already posted or from the SPSS manual (though I'm sure I should be able to). I am using SPSS 15 to analyze the results of a survey. I orignally put all the data into an Excel file - each question/ response separately.

I would like to combine several variables into one variable with multiple responses (essentially a Likert scale).

What I have currently is 5 variables which basically are
is CAP
-not important
-slightly important
-somewhat important
- important
- very important

Each is coded yes=1 and no=0. The variables do not overlap since the survey respondents were asked to pick one

What I would like to do is have the data match how the survey question was actually asked which was one question with multiple choices; the respondents picked one choice
How important is CAP?
-not important
-slightly important
-somewhat important
- important
- very important

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Arden
