Count occurrences of a value based on a set of conditions

Postby shanesoo » Wed Feb 12, 2014 6:32 am

Good day everyone,

I need to count occurrences of a value based on a set of conditions.

The variables I have are: Company_ID, Application_ID, Date_of_Application

The task is this:
Count how many times in the last X days that this current case's company (identified by Company_ID) has put in another job application (identified by Application_ID). I expect I may have to do a loop down which will go through every single case and ascertain the number of applications put in by that particular company that falls between, for e.g. 01/01/2014 and 08/01/2014 (X=7 days).

I tried doing this in Excel with Countifs - Countif Date_of_Application falls in the X period AND if Company_ID = current case's.
It works, but takes way too long. 45 mins per run!

I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!
