Save file only if not empty

Is it possible in SPSS to perform an action conditional on properties of the total dataset?
What I would like to do in this case, is write an output file only if the number of cases in the file is larger than 0.

As far as I'm aware, IF and DO IF only allow you to condition on the properties of a case (if a case satisfies condition X, do Z with case). I cannot think of a way to perform an action conditional on the properties of the dataset as a whole.

Is there a way to do this?
