Simple effects test for 2 within variables

Postby ungeziefer » Mon Sep 22, 2014 1:14 pm

I'm having issues with conducting a repeated ANOVA for 2 independent variables. I have no problem conducting the overall test for main effects and interactions. However, running the simple effects tests have proven to be a pain.

I've been reading about syntax for simple effects tests but the way my books have been showing me isn't how my data work. For example:
SORT CASES BY cond.
SPLIT FILE LAYERED BY cond.
GLM var1 var2...

This is the simple effects test for a within variable with a between. However, my 2 variables are both within. That is, my participants received both levels of both variables together (e.g., Variables 1, 2 and Variables A, B: 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B). How can I construct simple effects test syntax to test two within variables?
