Sorting by Participant Code/UserID

Postby DataFan » Wed May 04, 2016 8:02 am

Hello SPSS-Specialists,

for a longitude study I am conducting 5 questionnaires. For the analysis of the data I will have to put the answers from the questionnaires into one data set. Because the participants throughout the survey stay the same, I am able to match participants' answers with a special UserID which was created for every participant. Im now looking for the fastest/most practical way to bring the different datasets from measurements 1 -5 into the right order. Here is what I was thinking about so far:

Version 1:
1. Order all datasets by UserID
2. Copy-Paste the content of each UserID to the respective UserID of the preceded dataset (measurement 2 to 1 etc)

Version 2:
1. Order all datasets by UserID
2. Fill up missing lines from dropped-out UserIDs with empty datarows
3. Copy-Paste the whole datasets

Version 3:
Find a better/automated way to bring back together datasets!

Version 1 and 2 could both be done, because the datasets are relatively small (around 50 entries each), but Im afraid there will be mistakes from the repetitive task (and it is also very boring). Additionally, I will work with other longitude studies in the future and it seems to be a good moment to learn something about bringing together datasets in a "clever" way.

Thanks for your help!
