remove specific value label spss in whole dataset

Postby minkejs » Tue Oct 23, 2012 1:15 pm

hello,

i have a code in +- 90 pct of my big dataset 99999998. it is not filled, but it only consists as a value label. I want to remove the label everywhere it is prefereably without exactly having to tell which variables it is in.
does anyone know a short piece of syntax something like:

drop value lable 99999998/all

something like that.

thanks

Hi Minke!

The syntax you mean is

Code: Select all

add value labels all 99999998.
but this will render the value label for 99999998 an empty string, which still is slightly different from no value label at all. To completely remove the label, you must use "value labels" and respecify all labels for each variable except for 99999998. I think the only serious option for doing so is writing a little Python script.

Mind you that "value labels" starts with removing all value labels for the given variable(s)!

Best,

o no, i was afreaid of that. that is how i do it now but it is not very convenient. i do not want to specify all the value labels. i hoped maybe someone knew some quick easy way... too bad... :( but thanks!

Hi Minke,

For a very simple demonstration on how to do this, see http://www.spss-tutorials.com/remove-va ... variables/.
