Creating new variables

Postby SPSSNewbee » Wed May 10, 2017 3:16 pm

Hi hello,

I have a dataset of different political events with 58 different variables presenting 3600 different events.

I want to create new variables based on:
its actors (VAR1), (nominal: education, agriculture, civilian)
country of the actor (VAR3) (nominal)
type of event (VAR2) (nominal: protests, demands, riots)
and date VAR4. (given in NUMERIC format, like this: 20040503)

Basically, I want to have one variable for eg.: all protest of agricultural actors, happened within the same 10 days, if they involved actors from at least 2 countries; or demonstrations of education actors, happened within the same 10 days, if they involved actors from at least 2 countries.

How do I proceed?

Thank you!
