Problems with Computing my Scale

Postby Annvdb » Fri Mar 21, 2014 8:12 am

Hi all!

I am computing 2 scales, one for electoral and one for non-electoral political participation.
Each scale has 3 questions in it (for example "did you vote the last elections?")

The answer can ben and 2.yes.

So then I would think that the minimum frequency on a scale is 3 (3times no(1)) and the maximum is 6 (3 times yes(2)).

But when I run my frequencies, I get values "1" and 4.5 .... How and why? What did I do wrong?

I tried the "if" command in the compute box and did Nmiss(3 items in the scale) <0 but that didnt work either

look at the actual values of the vars you used to compute this sum scale, maybe some were entered?

also, i find it easier to use no = 0, yes = 1
