Does anyone know to interpret categorical variables in spss?

Postby secretpanda » Sun Mar 29, 2015 9:36 am

Hi I am having trouble with interpreting my data from survey monkey into spss.

I don't have any continuous variables just categorical. For example "what is your age?" -- participant will tick "18-24 years" but will not enter 23, 22 etc.

This is the case for all my independent variables and I have to do regression :(

My independent variables are all my demographics ie: age, gender, ethnicity etc but it all categorical (my mistake) and I need to perform a regression analysis… against my statements to assess social attitudes (the strongly agree etc)

Help, how can I do this on spss..

If you have all categorical variables, you might want to use chi square (via crosstables) instead of regression.
if for some reason you are set on doing regressions (which I would not reccomend), you could look into logisitical regression and use dummy variables as predictors.
