Correlation of Z scores

Postby DH110 » Tue Jun 07, 2016 1:04 pm

Hi all,

I've needed to convert my data to z scores in order to analyse them. However, when I create a correlation matrix, I'm not sure if SPSS is providing me with the output I need.

As an example, sources like the one linked below say that in order to find a correlation for the z scores for the means of X and Y variables, one must sum the products of X and Y and then divide by the number of cases. This gives the Pearson correlation.

*I think* SPSS is just correlating the mean z scores without finding the product and summing it. Maybe it does this in the background without me realising it but if anyone could shed any light on it, that would be great.

If I haven't explained this clearly enough please do say!

Thanks,
DH
