Merging data: adding variables but with duplicate cases

Postby librand » Thu Jul 28, 2016 3:36 pm

Hi there,

I've go this database which is a national household survey. It is stored in 12 different files. One of them has 22524 cases on houses. 4 of them have 23005 cases on the families living on those households. And 7 of them have 76026 cases on the individuals that make up the families.

I want to merge the 12 databases. My unit of analysis is the family, but I would also like include in the analysis data about the house and about the individuals.

There is a unique ID for each house, let's say X. Then family 1 in that house has a unique ID of X1 and family 2 would be X2. Similarly, the individual members of the family would be X11, X12, etc. If the next house is Y, the families within that house would be Y1, Y2, etc. and individuals would be Y11, Y12, Y13, Y21, Y22, etc.

Any ideas on how I could merge these files?

Thank you!
