Comma separation issue

Postby littlebit577 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 1:27 am

I am importing data from an Excel file and the values are separated by commas. However, one strong variable has values that are a range and look like this: "(123,456)"

Because of the comma within the value, it is putting "(123 into one column and pushing 456)" to the next variable column. I've been told that you can tell SPSS that string variables are in quotes. However, my other strings are not in quotes...

Does anyone have any solutions for this?

Thank you!

just run through the import menu, you can switch separate columns by comma off.
You can enter the data in such a way that every column in excel is recognized as a column in spss as well.
