Rearranging Data

Postby herwitz » Sun Jun 29, 2014 2:11 pm

I recently collected data using a survey that had five items which were counterbalanced in the following (Latin Square) way:

Survey v1: 12345
Survey v2: 23514
Survey v3: 35421
Survey v4: 41253
Survey v5: 54132

Because I had to manually enter the values for these items, I saved time by entering them into SPSS indiscriminate of their corresponding variables in the DataSet. In other words, not all values in the item 1 column reflect that variable, not all values in the item 2 column reflect that variable, and so on.

Does anyone know if there is an automated command in SPSS that will rearrange the values so that they are under their correct variable columns?

Many thanks for your help!

I am sure this can be done, however, I am not sure what the problem is exactly / where values should go etc.

If you need more help, please provide more information on your data (not the content, just: variable names / what should go where etc).

I got a feeling that this is going to be solved using if-functions however, maybe you can look into that, or come back!
