Spss import data FROM crosstab

Postby Jeda » Tue Nov 11, 2014 6:50 pm

I have just a crosstab on excel and i have to import that dataset from excel to SPSS. I dont have the original data with the 2 variables on the columns and the 10000 rows, one for each person, just the 2x2 crosstab.
How can i import that on SPSS? i can not upload an example of crosstab i have, but just to be understood i write it that from excel:

male female
Yes 250 300
No 350 300

thanks for helping me!

Hi Jeda

1. Create a new datasheet.
2. In Variable View, create three variables, gender (string, width 6) response (string, width 1) and number (numeric, width 3, no decimals).
3. In Data View, enter

gender response number
male y 250
male n 350
female y 300
female n 300

4. In a new syntax file enter the following .....

weight by number.
frequencies variables = gender response.

The frequencies tables reflect the numbers in your crosstabulation.

Cheers

Thanks so much!
I did anyway the crosstab to do a CHI-Square test like that:
weight by numbers.
frequencies variables=Gender response.

CROSSTABS
/ TABLES = Gender by response
/STATISTICS=CHISQ

Hi John,
May I ask how you performed the import of data from your spreadsheet into a database table?
Regards, Brian.
