Narrowing a variable?

Postby cca3893 » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:18 pm

Hello all,

I'm doing research on Latin American countries and various measures of strength and weakness of Democratic regimes. In the World SPSS dataset there is a variable for countries. how do I take that variable, and make a new one with just the Latin American countries?

as statman said, need more info on variables etc,, but probably what you need is a simple recode function:
recode originalvariable (1 = 1) (2 = 1) into latincountries.

replace "originalvariable" with your varname, (1=1) (2 = 1) etc: replace for the country codes of latin countries you want.
this may not work, but need more info to say anything useful.
