Data Entry Help Please

Postby jjahwebb » Thu Jan 14, 2016 5:11 am

I am kind of new to SPSS so any help would greatly be appreciated. To begin, I would like to see differences in fish catch by year and/or location. Specifically, which species are increasing/decreasing and where changes are occurring.

So, I have a data set with year, exact date, location, type of fishing gear, fish species code, exact fish species, number of fish caught, and weight. I have re-coded the locations (40 total) into numeric values, as well as changing the fishing gear into numeric values. It seems like I need to define or associate certain variables with each other and I don't know how. I am unsure if SPSS is able to differentiate between multiple variables and their corresponding inputs. For instance: at 'x' location, in 2012, there were 15 fish caught (from certain genus, species) with total weight of 15 kg.

Here is what it looks like as of now:

Many thanks,
