Grouping 3 Scale Variables Into 1

Postby caitantal10 » Tue Mar 29, 2016 1:48 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am having massive difficulties with one issue -- combining existing scale variables into one.
I have 5 variables -- I am looking at three different types of verbs in healthy seniors & in patients with Alzheimer's through items analysis.
Essentially, I am trying to tell SPSS to impose a hierarchical structure upon my variables.
That is, I am trying to tell SPSS to group these three variables into my Control Group & other three variables into my AD group.
Everywhere I see only tells me how to group existing categorical data together -- however I need to group scale data.
Any help would be much appreciated!

You may need the if-function.
to get a more detailed response, please post a screenshot of what you have now and what you want to achieve.
