Matrix Data with Multiple Options - How to deal with it?

Postby GarethLock2 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 9:04 am

I have just finished preparing my data and inserted it into SPSS from a 1036-entry survey collected in Qualtrics.

A number of the questions in the survey were constructed using the Matrix question type in Qualtrics. The single response questions I can deal with and have developed a codebook entry for them. The difficulty is with those who have a multiple response like this below.

At the moment I have a variable for each of the entries, e.g. Reasons_selfnotuse_cxlist1, Reasons_selfnotuse_cxlist2...Reasons_selfnotuse_cxlist15. The reason being that Qualtrics captured one entry per box. For those where single entries were stated, then it is possible to count.

What I would like to do is use another variable e.g. 'manufacturer name' to determine if there is any correlation between manufacturer and reasons for not completing.

I have a feeling I am going to have to change the data into something more useful, but don't know what to change it to.

Thanks in advance

Gareth

If I just do the basic descriptives analysis and create a codebook (Analyze>Reports>Codebook) this is what I get for that section. This refers to third response (Training agencies checklists are too generic) but the count is in "1". All of the responses for all of these multiple choice matrix questions are in the first entry "1".
