I have a problem with my analysis because I got stuck and I can't seem to find a solution...
I need to find a proper SPSS analysis for the following hypothesis:
Women (when compared to men) display a stronger trait X,
whereas men (when compared to women) display a stronger trait Y.
I conducted a survey asking a bunch of questions concerning either one of those two traits, using a Likert-Scale from 1 to 5, depending on the strength of the traits.
I then computed two variables, one variable with all the mean values of all the questions belonging to Trait X, and the other one for trait Y.
I now want to compare the two traits with regard to gender differences.
I therefore don’t simply want to calculate whether women display a stronger trait X than Y, but whether they display a stronger trait X when compared to men.
The problem I have is that since I want to compare two computed variables (that consist of the mean of multiple variables each) on the basis of gender differences, I don't think I can do a regular ANOVA analysis or anything like that, no?
Help, anyone? Please?
