R-sq in mediation

Postby verena.mur@gmail.com » Tue Dec 19, 2017 9:04 pm

Hello, we are a statistic's group and currently stuck with the interpretation of our mediation analysis in PROCESS (Hayes' macro for SPSS). The relationship between our independent variable X and the mediator M calculated a R-square of 3,5%. The relationship between the mediator M and the dependent variable Y was a R-square of 44%. The R-squared mediation effect size whereas was only 2,4%. How is this possible? Shouldn't the overall mediation effect be higher than the single R-squares? Thanks in advance
