PROBLEM WITH MEAN AND CORRELATION

Postby Federicodaros » Wed Jul 04, 2012 4:26 pm

I am doing a research for my dissertation. I developed a survey where each question has 3 items and the answers are a 5 lickert scale, the format of the question is a checkbox matrix. Now i exported in spss and I have for each item 5 variables corresponding to the 5 answers (strong disagree-strong agree). How can I determine the descriptive statistics for the whole question so that i can do correlation with an other question??
I am desperate

look into if-functions

something like:

if (agree_1 = 1) question 1 = 1.
if (slightly_agree_1 = 1) question_1 = 2.
(...)
if (disagree_1 = 1) question_1 = 5.

i saw that my problem is the format of question i used so now i have that the answers are the variable and just say 0 or 1 whether the aswer has been clicked. and i dont know how to use descriptive statistics per item and them given the 3 item of the whole question
