ctables multiple respond

Postby seweryngrodny » Fri Jul 04, 2014 11:44 am

Hi,

this my first entry, so please be big-hearted:)

I had a questionarre, where 100 brands were surveyed. Every respondent were asked to assess 3 brand at once, but this brands were draw for every respondent. Then all 3 brands were assessed on 5 items. Items variables are coded as binary. Variables 'draw brand 1-3' contain all possible brands. My data are coded in this manner:

1. Draw brand 1. (all 100 brands)
2. Item 1(Brand1) (binary)
3. Item 2(Brand1) (binary)
4. Item 3(Brand1) (binary)
5. Item 4(Brand1) (binary)
6. Item 5(Brand1) (binary)
7. Draw brand 2. (all 100 brands)
8. Item 1(Brand2) (binary)
9. Item 2(Brand2) (binary)
10. Item 3(Brand2) (binary)
11. Item 4(Brand2) (binary)
12. Item 5(Brand2) (binary)
13. Draw brand 3. (all 100 brands)
14. Item 1(Brand3) (binary)
15. Item 2(Brand3) (binary)
16. Item 3(Brand3) (binary)
17. Item 4(Brand3) (binary)
18. Item 5(Brand3) (binary)

Up till now I figured out that I can analyse it with CTABLES, setting it in this way:
to rows: 1. Draw brand 1. (all 100 brands), 7. Draw brand 2. (all 100 brands), 13. Draw brand 3. (all 100 brands)
to column: 2. Item 1(Brand1) (binary), 8. Item 1(Brand2) (binary), 14. Item 1(Brand3) (binary).

As a results, I got a big table were only diagonal is correct. I can sum it by hand (in Excel :) ), but as you may imagine it's quite tedious.

Any ideas how can I optimize the analysis?

Thanks in advance
Seweryn

Dear Seweryn,

Can you share some more details regarding your question? For instance, what does the desired table look like? Perhaps you could upload an example in Excel or Word? And what CTABLES syntax did you try thus far?

Kind regards,

Hi,

I attached SPSS data and report file (ver.22) (and CTABLES code).

I was able to obtain only this table (showed in report file), where only diagonal is correct (due to drawing procedure).
I tried to use module for multi response, but program had generated bad results.

It would be perfectly, if I could somehow produce smaller table. As you can see variables: LEK1-3 have the same values and item C11A_1_1 to C11A_3_1 have
the same meaning.

Desired table look is in a Excel file.

All files were packed.

Code: Select all

CTABLES
  /VLABELS VARIABLES=LEK1 LEK2 LEK3 C11A_1_1 C11A_2_1 C11A_3_1 DISPLAY=BOTH
  /TABLE LEK1 [C][COUNT F40.0] + LEK2 [C][COUNT F40.0] + LEK3 [C][COUNT F40.0] BY C11A_1_1 [C] +
    C11A_2_1 [C] + C11A_3_1 [C]
  /CATEGORIES VARIABLES=LEK1 LEK2 LEK3 C11A_1_1 C11A_2_1 C11A_3_1 ORDER=A KEY=VALUE EMPTY=INCLUDE.
Thanks

The attachments help a lot in seeing the structure in the data. However, I still don't entirely get what you'd like to see in the table.

In the EXCEL file, in cell A6 you mention the brands that were drawn but then what's in column B? Is it something like "if brand 1 was among the brands that were drawn and "sneezing" was mentioned at least once, then count it as "mentioned"?

Hi,

I attached, another Excel file, this time with all formulas.
I want to do this operation in SPSS (or have similar effect).
Is it something like "if brand 1 was among the brands that were drawn and "sneezing" was mentioned at least once, then count it as "mentioned"?
Yes, I think it's sth like that.

I didn't see any other Excel file with formulas. However, this syntax (http://spss-tutorials.com/downloads/varstocases.sps) seems to do the trick here.

Let me know whether that gets you any further, OK?

Kind regards,

Sorry, I had a problem with attachment.
It's available here:

I will check your syntax and let you know.
Thx
