Really struggling to understand experimental effect

Postby joeburns70 » Mon Sep 01, 2014 7:29 pm

Hi all,

New to the forum. I'm trying to complete a coursework assignment and have run up against a brick wall. I have a partial print out of a SPSS result with the following headings. Preference (frequencies) (with a yes and no column underneath) and they are just values that total 210 when people are putting their preferences to 5 types of ways of pay for bus journeys. My problem is with the accompanying column. It has a heading of % Experimental effect and a similar Yes No headings it has numbers which are always the negative of each other so it look like this:

.........................Preference.....................% Experimental effect
.......................Yes...........No........................Yes............No
Season ticket.....101..........109.......................-43.............43
Debit card..........159..........55...........................2..............-2

Had to put the dots in to get the spacing to work.

What is the experimental effect and how are those number calculated? I have searched everywhere but with no luck. Can you help? :?
