Problems with a variable

Postby pfiffy » Tue Jan 27, 2015 2:22 pm

Hey guys, I'm new to this, so you'll be hearing from me quite often. I hope you don't mind.

I've encountered a problem in SPSS 20:
I have opened Text data in my SPSS and on price variable, the values change (i dont understand why). Everything changed for two decimal points. Value (price) which was 0,81 (81 cents) before, is on SPSS now simply 81 (which is 81 eur). What gives?

Thanks for anykind of help!

Cheers

this might have to do with whether spss recognizes " , " as a decimal point or " . " as a decimal point.
you can check and change this under options .

thanks, this helped!

for future reference, changing options (all 5 of them) is not enough: i had to import again, and change this specific variable from "comma" into "numeric" - this did not happen before.

cheers!
