Clustering with numerical and dichotomou data input

Postby sabrina_Italy » Thu May 07, 2015 6:43 pm

Hi everybody!
I need to know a simple information about SPSS software. I need to do a cluster analysis for my thesis, but my imput data are qualitative data. So i'm trying to converte all my data in quantitative variables but i have noticed that not all the data are possible to converte in dichotomous variables, some of them are numerical.
So my question is: Is it possible to make a cluster analysis with a combination of both these types of variables with SPSS software? Maybe, someone has already asked similar questions like that, so I am sorry if I am repetitive about the topic.
Thanks a lot!

What do you mean when you say "numerical"? scale? ordinary? nominal with several options?

In any case, spss can handle nominal (including binary), ordinal and scale data for cluster analysis, just not string variables.

Yes it is possible but as just noted, we need to know more about your data and ....
See the note below

Sorry for my inaccuracy.
I mean that some data are decimal (0,8) and some binary (0/1) and i need to do a cluster with both of these kind of data.

still not clear. but anyway: yes, you can use multiple types of data.
