Multple values

Postby Hval » Fri Jun 19, 2015 3:22 pm

Hi guys.

I am quite new to SPSS, and I am trying to find out a solution to one specific problem; how do I create labels/values for more than one genre?

Ill try to show you what I want with a illustration:

Answers
Color:
1. Red
2. Red
3. Blue
4. Blue, Red and Green

SPSS:
Color:
1. 1
2. 1
3. 2
4. ?? (3,1,2?)

In other words; Is it possible to get the system to have more than one answer in a column?

Thanks for any help.

Not entirely sure if this is what you mean. what method to choose depends on how you want to continue with the data, what you want to do with it.

Option 1:
Just do exactly as you say, so create a category 4 that you specify as multiple colours (in labels you can then say that it is all 3).
You then need to specify all combinations.

Option 2:
Instead, create 3 variables: Red, Blue and Green. Give this variable a 1 when that specific color is chosen, and a 0 if it is not chosen.

It would then be for the situations you specified:

Red.......blue.....green
1...........0.........0.......
1...........0.........0.......
0...........1.........0.......
1...........1.........1.......
