Cannot load Excel s/s

Postby deguza » Wed Nov 23, 2016 10:16 pm

Hello all,

My first few days with SPSS, after being away from it for years.

I need to analyze data that has been giving to me on an Excel spreadsheet. I cannot seem to be able to load it. I follow the instructions on the help screens. They are very straightforward.

I thought perhaps it was the amount of data (over 50K rows, 50 plus columns), so to test I tried to load a 250 rows of data. Again it would freeze.

In fact SPS freezes as soon as I just click once on the name of an Excel file.

I also tried xlx files. Sama thing.

What do you think is the problem?

Thanks,

Windows 7, SPSS 22

As for my data: Client data made up of demographics plus services received and names of service providers.

Thanks,

Hello again,

It freezes as soon as I move my cursor over a file...

I tested with a file that contains 100 integers {1...100}. I logged off and a colleague signed on to the workstation. From her account, it worked fine. She says she never experiences this type of a problem.

Here are the steps I go through:

* Start SPSS
* File > Open > Data >
* Find the directory that contains my data file
* Change "Files of Type" to Excel
* Move cursor to the window displaying the Excel file(s).
***** freeze ***** :(

So you don't even have a chance to highlight the excel, it freezes as soon as you enter the folder that contains the file?

Well, if I am fast enough I am able to highlight an Excel file, but it immediately freezes. I have to use the Task Manager to kill SPSS. The interesting thing is the Task Manager does not show "not responding" for SPSS and just says it is running fine.

Can you attach the file? If confidential data, at least a portion
